My New Job

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting So I just had my first ever starbucks shift, and even though I didn't actually take any customers, I learned quite alot and it was uber fun! So the whole thing started out basically with me and my manager (Sara) talking and going through these books and pamphlets and stuff, and it was kind of draining - but to keep me company I had a Caramel Macchiato (not sure if I spelled that right) It was my first official coffee experience. Enjoyable - wierd, but enjoyable. Umm then we did alot of walking around and learning about different stuff, in general I enjoyed it.. By the end of the night, (he was high as a kite once again, ten points if you know that song) we got to the part where I got to learn how to make Allll the cold blended coffees on the menu, and the iced teas and stuff, and in general it was just uber fun! I made about 9 different drinks, and ended up taking them all with me, cause I didn't want to throw them all away! I gave some to the people who worked at Nectars, (the greek resturaunt next door) and the rest are sitting in my freezer. Im not sure how that's gonna work out, but whateves.
Anyways.. Work was alot of fun, I know alot of people and it's just gonna be great - I get the feeling that Starbucks, once Im confident in myself enough to know all the recepies and stuff, is gonna be the type of place I look forward to working at. The great thing about starbucks, that I figured out long before I got hired, is the community that exists, not only within the staff, but everyone.. The whole deal with starbucks, is that they want to be in the community and a part of it, and contributing to it and also the environment..

The mission statement of Starbucks is to: "Establish Starbucks as the premier purveyor of the finest coffee in the world while maintaining thier uncompromising principles while they grow."

and it was just super great, because I had this conversation with my manager about values and that sort of thing, and, I know it's corney and no one really cares, but they have some awesome values for thier employees, and I really agree with them and these values and the mission are really what drew me to say yes after the interview.. Not that a job was basically bieng handed to me, cause it was, but because I honestly felt like this would be a positive environment for me to work in, and it just lined up with some of my values and stuff like that..
So they have six core values, and they are :

1. Provide a great work environment and treat each other with respect and dignity.

2. Embrace diversity as an essential component in the way we do business.

3. Apply the highest standards of excellence to the purchasing, roasting and fresh delivery of our coffee.

4. Develop enthusiastically satisfied customers all of the time.

5. Contribute positively to our communities and our environment.

6. Recognize that profitability is essential to our future success.

So yeah.. Overall, Im just happy with the way things seem to be run at starbucks, with the values and mission, with the way they treat thier employees and customers, and with the whole working environment. I will admit, working at starbucks isn't going to be an easy job with no stress or problems, but hey - you can't expect that from any job, or you're living in a dream world.. So that's what up -

Peace and Love for today and always

PS. I also found out that Sara, my manager, worked at the same wrap zone that mike worked at, probably around the same time! She said she thinks she remembers, but it was like 6 or 7 years ago.. Anyways.. that's that for that. I hope y'all have a great day, or night, whenever it is you read this.. Love you all
