To Whom It May Concern:
RE: Future Career Goals, Ashley Schalin
Ever since I was old enough to no longer be young, I loved children. It seems like everywhere I have been, I have found some special little boy or girl, or several of them who attached themselves to my side as well as my heart. There was one moment however, when I was in a children’s home in Tijuana, BC, Mexico, that made me realize what I really want to do with my life.
There are the kids from the middle class neighborhoods and the wealthy families who go to daycare or preschool every day and then at the end of it, who go home to their families and sleep tight in their own bedrooms, with their own toys and things surrounding them. The children that I want to help are the ones who might not have a home to go to. The ones who sleep in a dormitory with other girls and boys, the ones who might feel they have no one to love them, nothing of their own to be proud of.
With the knowledge that I can absorb from your Early Childhood Education program at Capilano College, and other resources, I want to find a place that really needs me: a city, a town. Somewhere. I want to open up a children’s home, an orphanage if you will. I adore children, and it breaks my heart to see them in need – and they are, all over the world. If I can somehow help just a small group of them, I know that they can learn from me just as much as I can learn from them.
I don’t have any rock solid ideas of where I might end up, but I do know one thing is for certain, wherever it is, I want to be surrounded by kids who just need a hand to hold, or a smile, a hug.. I want to give myself to those children, and I'm hoping that your Early Childhood Education program will help me on my way to this dream.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely
Ashley Schalin
