Dear Faithful blog readers, some of whom i didnt even know existed! (ahem Cara, ahem)
Sorry for the lack of updates, and i know this excuse is going to be the same as every other one, I've been insane busy.
So last night was my last day at work, it made me smile.. cause it was my last day. and the last sandwich i made just happened to be for a guy named jeff walters, which was amusing.. just cause if you know who he is, you are amused by that fact.
So last time i wrote, it was beginning of the summer, now it's the end, which is a huge, irresponsible time gap. Alot has happened since then.. I went to jamaica, and this blog is going to be sort of alllllll about that. So have fun with this guys. Brace yourselves.
So the trip started with the flight, which was .. Exciting. . But I was so scared too It had been a long time since I had seen Treston, and I had a lot of responsibility this time. I had to stick to the plan! So we got to Jamaica, and I was so nervous that I was shaking. Shaking, and it’s like 100 degrees outside! Then I saw Treston, and Yvonne, and all of the sudden, it was like old times again. Treston hugged me and I sat in the backseat with Yvonne and he sat in the front with his friend, whose name, I dunno… Anyways.. We dropped off the bag that Tina had sent with me for all her family, then headed to Trestons yard. On the way there, Debo and Campy piled into the car.. . It turned out that I couldn’t stay in Trestons moms house, cause his little brother was sent home early from his dad’s house, so I stayed in Trestons house, and Treston slept on the couch in his moms living room. It was so sweet of him.. I felt so bad, tho! Oh wait wait, on the way home, we stopped in Lucea, at this little bar. The bar guy asks me where I’m from, and when I tell him Canada, he pulls this little beaver out from beneath the counter. He asks Treston if he knows what it is, and it took him and his friend like 20 minutes discussing it, telling me they’re sure that it can swim, and it must be a Canadian animal, and finally, I couldn’t take it anymore, so I had to tell them what it was! They were driving me crazy! It was funny, tho, to watch them try to figure it out. That first night, we went to a birthday party of one of his friends, which was kind of boring, I was shy, and not too many people paid attention to me. Poor Shle… So then I met DJ.. He is Trestons Bestest best friend, and we’ll call him DJ, tho he has like … 4 different names. DJ, Element, Lee, and Lecroft. So DJ it is.. Anyways, Debo gets on the bike with DJ, and I got on the bike with Treston (motorbike) and we went to Negril. It was a really fun time, I met Pat (Trestons Sister) and we just had a good time in general. On the way back, we stopped at this corner store, like a grocery store the size of the gas station up at parkgate. We stood outside, I met so many people, and then all the boys got into a huge discussion about soccer. So that lasted awhile.. Which was fun to watch.
So the next day, I played Dominoes with Treston in the morning, and he kicked my ass royally! Anyways, I went to orange bay with Trestons older brother, Tyrone.. Treston said he would meet me there. That’s the beach, by the way. Anyways, we went first to Negril, and Tyrone got groceries, and bought me a drink, then we went to the beach, where Treston was hanging out with all his friends.. After a bit of time being semi-ignored, I told Treston that I was going for a walk down the beach.. Two people offered to plait my hair, and then this one guy started walking along with me. He asked me where I was staying, and I told him Logwood. Then he goes “Oh so you have a Jamaican boyfriend, then?” and I told him yes, and asked him if that meant he was going to stop walking with me. Then he said “no man.” and then went on and on about how logwood men were very scary, and how a lot of them have guns, and he asked me where my boyfriend was, because he didn’t want to cross him. I told him he was down at the other end of the beach, and we kept on walking. When I turned around, the guy left me where he joined me, and then I went back to Treston, and told him all about it. He thought it was funny, but asked me where the guy was, and got this jealous look on his face. I told him not to worry about it.
After that, I headed over to Yvonne’s yard, and we chilled with her friend, Taddy, and Campy, and some cute little kids, and then.. Wait this is the best part.Hurricane Dennis decided it was going to hit Jamaica. On my second day! I was kind of spooked, cause the sky kept flashing with lightning.. By the time it was dark, Treston came by on a bike, and had me worried, cause he was talking about getting my passport and money and stuff in a safe place, in case his house didn’t stand up to the storm, and then we went to get some supplies for the hurricane. He sent me into the store and told me to get what we needed, and I was like.. Dude, I have NO idea what to get.. You get it! After we got the groceries, me and DJ went on the motorbike to bring his seven year old son some supplies (who lives with DJ’s dad) and then headed back to the store. The rain was intense. The wind was intens-er.. that’s not a word, but I just made it one.. Hahahha.. So I heard that night, on the radio, all this stuff about the hurricane.. 15 inches of rain expected, flash floods, mudslides, winds up to 120 km/h, every public event cancelled until further notice, shelters opened, people advised to evacuate. It was a category 5 hurricane by the time it reached Jamaica. I was really kinda scared, but thank God, the hurricane missed the west end of Jamaica, and we were safe.. But the other half got damaged really badly…
umm, Tricias birthday, was cool, even tho she was still in canada. . I took a nice cold shower, cause when I woke up I was sweating like mad, I know… gross…
Treston left, saying that he would send DJ on the bike for me.. DJ came back like an hour after that, and told me to bring my phone that Tina told me to use, and my CD’s… So we got to where we were supposed to be, the house of one of Treston’s good friends. He had a daughter named Kacey, and a little baby named Junior. Treston told me that mom had called, and so he went down the road to get some calling cards and came back.. I called mom and I called Tricia for her birthday, too.. So when the baby woke up from his nap, I held him most of the afternoon.. Treston was sitting on the couch with me and the baby, and we were both playing with him, and it was just so cute! We stayed there until evening, when we all had dinner together. We had these things that looked like little pieces of steak, but then I saw Treston and DJ both eating them, and both of them are hardcore vegetarians, so I know it wasn’t steak.. It turned out to be some kind of vegetable that they have down there. Dunno what, but damn it was good.
Ok.. So that was that day, we had a good one all in all. The next day, I spent some time in the early morning listening to Dashboard confessional. I was getting sick of reggae, and that was not a good sign, seeing how I had only been there a couple of days! Oh well.
So we went to, what Treston called “the river” and we did laundry, and bathed in the water. It was really relaxing. So me and Treston had this discussion about religion by this point. I told him what I believed, he told me what he didn’t believe in (Jesus.. Uh oh..) I explained to him how important my faith was to me, and what I was going to do in the fall… and.. Wowza, I was going nuts, I was like.. Shit, this isn’t going to work out! Duh bob.. Thanks for that update…
Anyways, the rest of that afternoon, Treston went of to prepare for Julia’s birthday party, (his little niece) and I stayed in the yard, writing in my journal, and rocking out to real music. U2, Blink 182, Weezer, ect.. You know how it goes. And I had a good talk with Akeem, Trestons little brother. We talked about Canada and snow, and Hurricanes, and what a “real storm” is, and how when we in Canada get rain like they do in Jamaica, it’s considered a “real storm” and it was just good fun. Around three o’clock, I realized that Treston was not going to be on time, and so me, Randy, Sharlotte, Akeem all played Dominoes. Randy and Sharlotte are Trestons brother and sister in law. After we played dominoes, Sharlotte asked if she could plait my hair. So she did, she started around six and took an hour and a half to finish. Seven thirty. I was expecting Treston at three o’clock. Damn, he was getting on my nerves. Then he showed up and I ran and got the gift for Julie, and we went, he told me he was sorry, but he was working the whole day getting ready for the party. I didn’t believe him at first, but then when we got there and I saw the massive amounts of food he had cooked, I believed him.. So we had the party, it was good fun, The guy who danced around with the fire was there, and .. It was just fun!
Then, the next day, I went to the airport with Yvonne and Rex, and Papa, it was a crummy time, cause on the way back, I was sitting in the back with papa and Tricia, and then the stupid car broke down, and I was just not impressed.. Cause we had to stop like 5 times to fill up some part of the car with water.. It was annoying cause it was so hot outside.. That night, I stayed over at Tricia’s house, and spent the next day with her and yvonne too, we went to lucea for groceries.
So that next day we went to the beach.. I went over to Tricia’s house to see if she wanted to come, and Treston and DJ went ahead on the bike, cause me and Tricia would take a taxi. So me and Tricia got to the beach, Debo had tagged along, Anyways. Me and Tricia went right into the water, and then I went to the beach and I sat down and we talked for a bit, the three of us.. Then me and Tricia went to the bar for some drinks, then it started raining randomly. I ran back to get our stuff, then we chilled on the beach the rest of the afternoon. Come evening, Tricia was hungry, and therefore, really grumpy, so we went to burger king, and me and her and Treston had some food, Treston only ate fries after he had made completely sure no meat had touched them… When Treston came into the burger king, he told me that my father had called, and that he told him to call back in 10 minutes.. So 10 minutes later, the phone rings, and I was expecting my dad, but it was my brother, which made me really really happy. I had a great talk with him, I missed him, and I loved talking to him from Jamaica. It made me happy .. Get my point?
Anyways, then we all went to this place right next to pat’s store, called “the Love boat” and it was this restaurant with a pool table upstairs. DJ sat with Julie, took some seriously messed up pictures of us, and watched as me and Treston and Tricia played. Treston ended up not being so good, so he cheated when he thought I wasn’t looking.. Ha-ha it was amusing.
So that was that day. On the fifteenth, I went to Montego Bay with Treston, Tyrone, DJ and .. Well.. Me… It was hot, and a rather long drive, but DJ had to pick something up from the airport, so it was either go with, or be bored at home. I chose to go.. Then we got back, and I got dropped off at Tricias yard, Treston said he would “soon come” I grew to realize that phrase doesn’t hold the same meaning as it would in Canada. I watched a movie with Papa and Tricia, then we got bored, so we went for a walk around Logwood. When we got back, it was nearing night time, so I called Treston, and him, me, Tyrone, Tricia and Papa went out looking for a party. Needless to say, with Jamaica preparing for Hurricane Emily, there were no parties.. Nothing at all…
The sixteenth was a dreary day. Treston left around 10am , telling me he’d be back soon.. Bah… I stayed laying in bed until three in the afternoon. I read a book, of course, I fell asleep, it was pouring rain… I realized there was no point in getting mad at him for it anymore. Anyways, then he came home around 6:30, and i didnt have much to say to him, so i went back to the room and read the rest of the night, and he came in awhile later to say goodnight.. blah..
The next morning, I woke up and ended up spending most of the day over at Tricia’s with Yvonne and Debo. I spent the night over at Tricias, me, her and papa fell asleep watching a movie, and didn’t wake again till the crack of dawn… why we woke up, god only knows.. But we did.. So we did…
The eighteenth, I spent the whole day with Tea and Puno, these two gorgeous little girls, Yvonne and Tricia went to Lucea, but I didn’t want to go. . So me and the girls walked around, I took them to the store, where I bought them some candy, and we chilled the whole day, it was sweet.. That’s about that for that day..
On the nineteenth, we went to the beach, everyone was so quiet, it was weird.. Then we went and played pool again, me, Chronic, Treston and Tricia.. I spent a lot of time chasing Julie around, tho.. She is such a sweet kid, she loved me so much! I loved her too.. I miss her a lot.. Julie decided that she wanted to spend the night over with me and her uncle, so we took her home with us, and I put her to bed.. Then Me and Treston and DJ ate some of that barracuda that he caught, and then went to bed.
On the twentieth, Treston left in the morning.. Left Julie with me.. So we were bored within the hour, so I asked her if she wanted to go for a walk with me, and we walked over to Tricias yard, which was just as boring for her, but she eventually found something to play with , so she was fine. Me and Debo chilled with Tricia and Julie around.. It was boring! Me and Julie took out my braids.. Then we went back to Trestons house later in the afternoon, and I called my best friend whitney.. Actually, I called Tom first, then I called her.. cause she wasnt at home.. But I meant to call Whit.... Hahahah talking to Her was wicked. I missed her so much, and I needed to hear someone’s voice from home, and she was my best bet, I knew she'd make me smile the most.. Hahah I was right .. So then, Sharlotte offered to plait my hair again .. It took her four hours! It was tons of fun tho.. It was pouring down rain, so I wasn’t expecting Treston anytime soon.
Julie spent another night with us…
On the 21st, Julie went home, Treston made some fish for us, and then we walked over to Tricia’s yard, where I spent the most of the day. Treston was back and forth between there and Taddys yard, right across the way. Debo and I watched finding Nederland..
Then Treston came over, and they all started watching a kung fu movie, so I left, cause I HATE kung fu, even more than when I left for Jamaica. They watch it way too much down there. And it’s not like.. Good kung fu, it’s shitty kung fu, with English dubbed over the Chinese or whatever language they’re talking, so their mouths don’t match the words they’re saying, and it’s sooooooo distracting, and they all have crappy effects. And .. To sum all that up, I hate kung fu.. So I went for a walk.. As I was walking, this really old ugly guy came and started hitting on me, and this guy came out of nowhere, and said “if you keep troubling her, I’ll break your neck” and so he left me alone.. I think he was a friend of Debo’s.. it was wicked funny.
Then i went back to tricia's yard, just in time to recieve a long awaited phone call from Duane and Jennifer, my youth pastor and his wife.. we talked for about 20 minutes, it was wicked cool.
So on the 22nd, we chilled, all of us, me, cracks, DJ, and Sharlotte, watched “My big fat Greek wedding” which made me laugh.. I needed that.. Around midnight, we went to this party in Santoy. It was wicked fun. DJ got on the stage and performed! He was so good!
On the twenty third, DJ was supposed to take me to West end, so I could see the lighthouse for mom, but by the time he reached Trestons yard in the morning, rain started falling, and for the rest of the day, it kept falling. It annoyed me.. But we, being, me Treston and DJ, chilled in the kitchen the whole day. We talked, cleaned the fridge out (for something to do) cooked, and just chilled. Treston went to watch TV for a bit, but I was bored with TV, so me and DJ stayed in the kitchen.. He told me that when me and Treston have kids (I was like.. Ha ha!) that he was going to be the godfather.. I was amused by it.
In Jamaica, it was like.. Everyone skips the part about us actually having to love each other and get married in order for us to have kids and be a family.. I guess having the family is more important than actually the beginning steps to them in Jamaica..
Anyways.. In the night, DJ left, and me and Treston sat down and started watching this movie.. It was a horror movie, I didn’t realize what it was until I was too far into it to stop. It was the exorcist, which was totally freaky, if you haven’t watched it, I don’t suggest you do.. My hand was over my mouth the whole time.. After the movie, we walked down the road to this crazy loud party.. Like.. I mean crazy loud. We danced, this one girl tried to teach me how, which was fun… We didn’t go home until dawn.. It was wicked.
Ummm what next.. Ok so the last day there! DJ took me to the lighthouse. It was a fun time, me and him just chilling out.. The lighthouse was closed, I couldn’t go close to it, but I got my pics for mom, which was good. So on the way back from the lighthouse, it started pouring rain… Wouldn’t you know it, I had on a white shirt! Rain in Jamaica is nothing to laugh at, but we laughed anyways.. I seem to have bad luck when it comes to white shirts and rain, same thing happened to me last year!!!? Ha. So we drove thru this mad rain, to the gas station, I got a bag to put my camera and wallet in so It wouldn’t get any wetter, and I got DJ gas for his bike… We stopped off at the beach for a drink to warm us up, cause we were both soaked..
Funniest thing happened on the way home, tho… I had been talking to DJ earlier about how he couldn’t scare me on the bike, and he told me that the last time someone told him that, they got in a bike accident. I told him I still wasn’t scared.. So on the way back, we were turning the corner, and the bike skids out from under us… so me and DJ are laying on the ground with our legs trapped under the bike, and I just start laughing.. He told me to get up, but I couldn’t, the bike was too heavy on my leg.. Just my luck to have worn shorts.. So we managed to get up, filthy from the dirt road, but only minor damage.. I’m still here. But my leg was covered in blood. It looked worse before I could wash it off. I lifted up my shorts to check the rest of the damage, and this guy goes “wow” so I put my shorts back down, and (crazy me,) I got back on the bike with DJ and we went home.. We took some pix, cleaned up, and then went off to the soccer match.. It was fairly boring.. Later, like, a few hours later, DJ took me back to the yard to get shorts on, (the cuts on my leg were killing me with pants on) and then took me to Tricias yard.. Treston said he was going to this party, and I stayed at Tricia’s, told him to come get me after the party.. I didn’t feel like going and watching him get wasted again.. I was there until 4am, me, debo, and Tricia.. Debo gave me his necklace, it looks good on me, or so he said.. I like it… anyways.. Then Campy came by, and later Treston, and him and I went home..
The next morning, Tricia called at 8:45 am.. I woke up, packed everything, and then chilled with Treston… Rex came by at 11:30, and we all headed to the airport.. Treston came too.. We said goodbye, Then I went home… It was good .. The flight was long and sooo uncomfortable, cause of my leg.. But I managed..
When I got home, I was so proud of myself .. I did it. I didn’t let him get the better of me, I didn’t let anything happen that wasn’t supposed to happen.. Y’know, there were some times during that trip, at night, when I’d just sit at the doorway and look up at the sky. And I was alone, so I’d sit there and start singing.. Not just any music, tho.. Like.. Worship songs.. One in particular was “Heart of Worship” and another one was.. Well.. I don’t know the name of it, but it goes
“How many times have I turned away? The number is the same as the sands on the shore, every time you’ve taken me back. And now I pray you’d do it once more. Please take from me my life, when I don’t have the strength to give it away to you.. Please take from me my life, when I don’t have the strength to give it away to you, Jesus..”
Sometimes I’d sit at the door and watch the rain fall.. sit and think.. Sit and pray.. It’s good you know, to just sit and be silent once in awhile.. So I did.. I also just listened to my music once in awhile.. Switchfoot, David Crowder Band ( a really good worship CD) and Starfield too.. They’re a good worship band too. It really was a good trip this time. Wow, and I just spent a looooong blog telling you about it..
I sincerely hope you didnt die of boredom.. i will update again tomorrow, and hopefully regularly after that!
Love to you all, the loyal people who still check for updates every day.. tomorrow it will be alot more interesting.
Love you Tons!
Love always: Shle
